Shinsengumi Mokuhiroku Wasurenagusa Vol.2 Okita Souji Review

Well, this time I'm here with the infamous "destroyer of feels", oh dear... If you didn't know already, Okita has tuberculosis, and already after finishing just track 1, I can tell he'll be a feels ride lol.

Wasurenagusa website

Unlike Yamazaki's CD, this starts out with Okita fighting during the Ikedaya Inn incident, which made the Shinsengumi famous. He's beating up some guys (with very awesome sound effects are per usual ouob) but he gets separated and tries locating Kondou. However, he starts coughing up blood and collapses.

When he awakes, he's worried about Kondou and Hijikata, and you tell him to rest since they're out on errands. He doubts your origins a little on whether you're a spy or not, but shrugs it off and goes to sleep lol. You walk away and he whispers to himself that he can still fight and a little coughing of blood is nothing. ;_; After all, he doesn't want to be put in a position where he always needs to be taken care of

Since he has to recuperate, he does cute things like feed the birds haha. Okita acts somewhat cold to you at first and even threatens you a few times. Also despite Kondou wanting him to rest, Okita pushes himself too hard while doing stuff like training because he still wants to be useful.

You're made his servant to watch over him and you end up doing a bunch of tasks for him. One day a few months later, he tries to intimidate you more to leave his side by threatening to kill you, even drawing out his sword. Eventually he accepts the situation of you being with him and hopes in getting better to serve Kondou and Hijikata.

One night, he kisses you in the moonlight, teasing if you've become charmed by the moon. Naturally you're surprised, but then he suddenly draws back and apologizes, saying that a person like him who has no future shouldn't be doing things like that to you. (omg you poor thing)

Another time you come in while he's training and bring him some onigiri. He says he's still hungry and you mistake that for him wanting more rice balls, but instead he comes onto you, teasing about eating you. ;D You shuffle away but come back worried as he starts coughing again. He says it's nothing and continues to tease and kiss you (with lovely dummy head mic-san of course ^o^) So really there's a bunch of kissing - a lot - but you still manage to fall asleep at the end lolol. But then he also knows that you know he has TB.....

The next time you talk with him, it starts to get a little depressing. Okita talks about how he'd like to watch Kondou, Hijikata and the Shinsengumi become even greater, and if he leaves before everything's over, he'll regret it deeply. Naturally this kind of talk makes you upset, but he reassures you by saying he has someone to live for. He says the death poem that the historical Okita Souji used, which is "Without movement, it would fall into darkness, flower and water." (「動かねば 闇にへだつや 花と水」) You don't get it, so he just shoos you away to make dinner preparations. Okita muses on how he's not afraid of death, even though he knows it's approaching. He hopes Hijikata and Kondou have a bright future and he'll be hoping for their happiness, which of course he'll never have. His time will come, but until then, he's happy with the way things are. ಥ_ಥ

Final Thoughts

Ok, I need to talk about this haiku. Okita is the flower, and Kondo, Hijikata and you are the water. Naturally, if you have a flower, it'll die without water. That's where darkness comes in --> Death. Because Okita can't "serve" anymore, he's the first to reach a standstill, and so he'll be swallowed by the darkness. He clearly wants to be able to continue serving Hijikata and Kondou. Want to know his biggest regret? It's not death - death doesn't scare him - but it's the fact he'll no longer be able to serve the Shinsengumi and watch it grow. Just.. ughh, feels. History is beautiful. (Because you know he's going die; he has TB!)

Speaking of tuberculosis, I'm surprised that in Wasurenagusa or Hakuouki, no one seems to be this contagious disease lol. For the heroine, I suppose it depends if it reaches the right stage or not to grow, but she's at a much higher risk. Especially with those sexy kissies. XD

Wow I just...I feel really bad for Okita in this CD. He tries acting healthy and pushing you away initially even though his body is getting weaker. But once he does realize that you love him, he kinda forces himself onto you because he won't have much time to make everything right. He may not be super affectionate, but his kisses tell all the emotion you need to know, even though he thinks you deserve to be with someone else - someone, naturally, who isn't going to die right away. Although it would've been nice to just be honest with his feelings lol, he's in a position where he has to try to give you up and just... it made me sad haha.

As usual, the music is gorgeous, and Tattsun did a wonderful job of portraying Okita. I had no idea that the loud-mouthed growly Mukami Yuma could have such a gentle voice. (/)u(\)

Guh, already this was starting to give me feels. Nothing super heart wrenching but.. Oh man, I bet his Kekkonroku CD will make me cry. (*.___.)
