Otome Games That Also Let You Date Girls

As we all know, otome is a glorious genre filled with a plethora of pretty boys and ikemen. ✨ But I know there have been a few times where I've seen a female character in an otoge and either wished she had a route or that there was a female route in general. Well thanks to some companies, that idle daydream can become a reality! Because sometimes ya just gotta smooch a girl instead. 💋

Some quick disclaimers:

• This post will mainly cover games and apps from larger companies, because trying to cover all the indie/OELVN games available on Steam and Itch.io would be... a LOT. 😅 (Not to mention, their tagging system for finding sapphic content is way easier!) 
• I also won't be including any one-shot spinoffs since they're usually events for a limited time only, and thus unable to play for the majority. 
• Edit: Currently the only exception to this that I'm aware of is Love Tangle. 
• Assuming they meet the criteria above, this growing list will only target female characters that appear alongside male characters in otome games and/or include otome routes. No routes will be listed from games that are only yuri/girl's love.
• This post will not include any characters that may crossdress (for various reasons) but still identify as solely male. 
• Sadly I have yet to play all of these routes. This post is meant more as a general list rather than recommendations.

This list will of course be updated as I discover more games and more female routes release. 😉 I can only hope I'll be able to play through most of these routes in the future~

"A love story that evolves from being friends." A sweet romance in a high school setting. I believe there might be a second season for them currently being worked on. 

Shino & Asuka

"A love story that begins from secretly admiring her." Another high school setting, available in the recently released season 2. P.S. There's story chapters available for them now!

Flower Lane [Maybe: Interactive Stories] (Cinamon Games)

Flower Lane is a recent addition to Cinamon Games' Maybe: Interactive Stories. "Just as you despair over your landlord kicking you out of the blue, you happen to receive a sweet invitation from the sharehouse "Flower Lane" where campus celebrities live. Will this be the start of a blossoming new relationship?" Choose between 3 lovely girls to romance: Chelsea, Alicia, and Kaira. 

(Small disclaimer: I was a little on the fence including it here? Flower Lane is only a Girl's Love story, but Maybe Interactive also includes BxG stories.)

Fxxx Me Royally!! / Ohime-sama datte XXX Shitai!! - Sanae (Kalmia8) **R18**

Not only does Fxxx Me Royally/Himetai allow you to play as a heroine completely open and comfortable with her sexuality, you get to romance a cute maid too! 

And yes, to those who don't want a yuri route, it's entirely optional. Although not sure why you'd want to skip it if you're reading this post. 🤭

Havenless - Samantha (LucyDream)

The newest English available game on this list. Sapphics in a zombie apocalypse! A mystery is brewing behind the scenes, and Samantha has your back to help get to the bottom of it. 

Heart no Kuni no Alice / Anniversary no Kuni no Alice - Queen Vivaldi (Quinrose) 

As ruler of the Country of Hearts, Vivaldi is quite literally a queen. She has a route in both the original Heart no Kuni no Alice game and its PC hd remake Anniversary no Kuni no Alice. Since I haven't played her route I'm not sure if it leans more towards romance or friendship, but the PC version has an English fanpatch available!

London Detective Mysteria / Eikoku Tantei Mysteria - Sara Marple (Karin Entertainment)

Sara is a classmate of Emily and is a detective as well. Unfortunately her route falls into the "gal pal" category. Detective girlfriends would have been so cute though. 🔎

Lovestruck (Voltage)

I decided to just make a quick collage instead of listing everyone because there's so many stories and bachelorettes. I would recommend checking the Lovestruck wiki for the latest information on stories that include sapphic characters. 

Mystic Messenger - Jaehee Kang (Cheritz)

Chief secretary by day, café dreamer by night. ☕ While her route ends more in a "friendship" way, later events explicitly state you as girlfriends in love. Her phone calls are also super sweet. 

Ozmafia - Pashet (Poni-Pachet)

I mean... kinda?? Lmao. It's a "route" but it's more on the friendship side. Let me date the cute catgirl Poni-Pachet!

Shall We Date?: Blood in Roses+ Season 2 (NTT Solmare)

Bridget

An aristocratic vampire meets a human hunter. Through a fateful turn of events she hires you as her bodyguard, and the relationship between the two of you begins to grow as mysteries unravel. A route that is both fluffy and alluring. 

Matilda

A strong and magical lady who isn't all that she appears. She first appears as a mysteriously masked woman running through the forest, weakened by her pursuers. Definitely a romantic at heart.

Celina Winter

Badass pianist who is also now kinda an informant too due to taking over her grandfather's cafe. Her ending is a tease, but her route is worth it. Her Pop'n Sweet Cafe side stories are also very flirty and gay.™

Ivy Attwood

A charming businesswoman who has the determination and will to find the answers she's looking for, with plenty of room for love along the way~

Spin-Off: Can't Say No -Joy-

2 years ago, before Celina's route was even a thought, NTT Solmare released a spin-off involving Joy! While she still doesn't have her own route to this day, you can experience her affections in this side story.

See You in Dreamland: Ivy & Celina

A quirky spin-off where you realize you're the magical girl that can help save the world! Extremely ridiculous, but the possibility of having not one but two girls proclaiming their affections for you? Yes please. Includes an Ivy End, Celina End, and Ivy & Celina End.

12-Ji no Kane to Cinderella ~Halloween Wedding~, 24-Ji no Kane to Cinderella - Feather (QuinRose)

While trying to restore your family name, you have the option to get close to your neighbor, Feather. Feather is a shapeshifter who can change their gender at will, alternating between their "male" or "female" appearance. Depending on the game you can either romance Feather as Odette Scarlet (12-Ji) or as her stepsister Rosalia Scarlet (24-Ji), though it seems Feather has a longer route in 24-Ji. YMMV depending how much you like the shapeshifting aspect. 

Gekka Ryouran Romance - Yaehara Daria (Rejet)

Look ma it's Ouran High School Host Club, but darker because it's Rejet. Also princely sword lesbian. 

Utena, is that you?

Hoshizora no Comic Garden (Affect/D3 Publisher)

The oldest game on this list, Hoshizora is playable on DS and features a university student heroine named Airi who wants to be a mangaka against her parent's wishes. An important person to Airi is her childhood friend Ren Suzuoka, an actress known for her Prince-like image.  

P.S. Did you know she's voiced by the legendary Romi Park? 💖

Kiniro no Corda / La Corda D'oro Starlight Orchestra - Ren Kousaka (Koei Tecmo)

Rei is a gentle looking 3rd year tubist who is well knowledgeable in relationship advice... and joined for the cute girls www. Since Starlight Orchestra is a mobile gacha game, there seems to be a lot of card collecting and mini games in order to unlock specific character interactions.  

You can view Rei's character introduction video here. Here's also a snippet of a cute beach date where you write your names in the sand and draw a heart around it. 💕

Shiritsu Berubara Gakuen ~Rose of Versailles Re:Imagination~ - Nozomi Maki (Otomate)

A theater kid at a prestigious acting school who helps start a new acting club called "Lumiere" that allows students of all socioeconomic backgrounds to participate in. She's commonly seen as a "prince" due to her frequent casting as the character "Oscar." Not exactly a "romantic" route since it uses the "If I were a man..." narrative, but still seems like a cute route nonetheless. 

(I guess blonde sapphic prince-like women are a common archetype. But can you blame games when icons like Sailor Uranus exist haha)

Zettai Meikyuu Grimm ~Nanatsu no Kagi to Rakuen no Otome~ (Karin Entertainment) 

Karin Entertainment is back with another game that includes female LIs, this time following the adventures of the Grimm brothers' young cousin named Henrietta Grimm. Two ladies you can meet on your fairytale adventures are the gaming otaku Rapunzel and the spoiled but cursed princess named Ibara Hime / Sleeping Beauty. Since I haven't played this game myself, I'm not sure how much friendship vs romantic interaction there is. 

Zettai Meikyuu Himitsu no Oyayubi-hime (Karin Entertainment)

Karin Entertainment really said here's even more girls you can date! A game inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales, you play as a girl named Charlotte who's nicknamed "Thumbelina" after mysteriously shrinking down to the size of a thumb. Bachelorettes you can choose from are a goth ice princess named Svia and a magical mermaid named Esheru~
