Dairoku: Ayakashimori (English name pending), Olympia Soirée, and Variable Barricade [Aksys Games]
Aksys definitely started out the new year localization train strong with some frequently requested games! I'm especially looking forward to VariBari since it features a protagonist who's both a bit of a tsun and voiced. There's lots of romance in this game too, so it seems like Aksys is finally listening to their fans about bringing over things that is "girly with butterflies and sparkles" lol. Olympia Soirée is also popular due to its worldbuilding, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it being localized. Due to the setting, I hope Aksys will give it that extra delicate touch it needs. Dairoku seems to be hit or miss among fans but I hope it does well. Not much is known yet for a release date other than 2021, so definitely subscribe to their game list to be notified of updates~
Code:Realize ~Wintertide Miracles~ [Aksys Games]
The ever popular Code:Realize is getting a shiny fandisc port to Switch! The beach scenarios are included on this platform, so definitely grab this if you've been holding out. The game releases on February 25th. As always, a limited edition is available as well.
Steam Prison [HuneX]
Steam Prison is HuneX's popular steampunk/fantasy game, and this time Fin's route will automatically be included~ The game releases on the eShop on February 25th and will also have a demo available. It seems like this will be a digital only release, but the physical Japanese version will also have English as a language option.
BUSTAFELLOWS [PQube/eXtend]
Some of you may remember PQube from that Kenka Banchou Otome survey where... nothing happened. But I'm happy to see they're finally bringing an otome over!! The game will release on both PC and Switch and involves time traveling and 5 bad boys to potentially romance. BUSTAFELLOWS will release sometime in 2021, possibly in the summer. Check out the English site here.
Ephemeral -Fantasy on Dark- [HuneX]
Originally a mobile game that got ported to PC, Ephemeral is now being ported once again to Switch. Follow the (zombie!) MC as she goes off to a fancy school and starts an interspecies romance. The cast is solid but the game seems to have mixed reviews, especially considering the original translation (which supposedly will be fixed), so definitely give the demo a try to see if it's something you'll enjoy. It releases on the eShop on January 21st.
I Love You! [Moonchime Localization]
A new company yay! Moonchime Localization will be bringing over I Love You!, a short indie game where you're the one to kabedon the guys instead of vice versa! So far it seems the release will only be digitally via PC, and will be free with an optional pay-what-you-want. Currently there is no exact release date but it will release in 2021.
Bakumatsu Renka Shinsengumi [D3P]
Blast from the past! Bakumatsu Renka Shinsengumi was recently announced and will be available on both Switch and PC. The game was originally on PS2 and DS, and you can read about all the new features here. There's no exact set release except for sometime in 2021.
🌺🌺🌺
I remember the days when hardly any localized otome existed, so it's definitely a treat to see so many localization announcements, especially so early in the year! I hope that 2021 will continue to bring even more~ 😊
Rip all the backlogs and wallets.
Happy gaming!
